What is Ascension Day all about?
On Christ Ascension Day we celebrate the breathtaking Return of Christ to God, His Father, to the highest heaven, in a glorious, incorruptible Body,to which the gravity law submitted.
This happened:
God in human form had lived 33 years among imperfect humans.
He was THE ONLY HUMAN WHO LED A TOTALLY SINLESS LIFE.
He was the Only human who could fully keep the Perfect Law of God: He genuinely loved God first; He genuinely loved man.
That’s why He was the Only human able to pay for the penalty of the sins of all humans who choose to repent and follow Him.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me has eternal life.”John 6:47
The celebration of the Ascension of Christ always falls on a Thursday. This year on the 14th May 2026.
In Portugal, it is also known as DIA DA ESPIGA (Wheat Day)
The Wheat Day bouquet points to Christ because it usually includes:
The Ear of Wheat → Christ is the Bread of Eternal Life
An Olive Branch → Christ is the Light in the midst of darkness
A Branch of Vine → Christ is the True Vine connecting men to God
Poppies → God’s undeserved Love & His Holy Righteousness, were shown through the shedding of His Son’s Innocent, Holy Blood
Daisies & other flowers → Joy and Assurance of having Peace with God , given through the merits of Christ
The Ascension Moment
Forty days after the Resurrection, Jesus appeared for the last time to His disciples at the Mount of Olives.
After giving them His final instructions, He was taken up before their very eyes, until a cloud hid Him from their sight.
Astonished, they noticed two angels who assured them He would return:
"Why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." Acts 1:11
Salvation in Christ Alone:
Christ is the Holy, Righteous, Perfect God in human form!
He came to receive upon Himself the judgment and punishment for the sins of all humans who reach out to Him to have Salvation and Reconciliation with God.
But salvation of the sinful soul comes only through repentance and personal commitment to the sinless Christ.
Are you one of those?
If yes, tell Him: Holy God, I am aware of my sins ( name them). I need your forgiveness. Please accept my life. From now on, I want to submit my imperfect will to Your Perfect Will. "But to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God." John 1:12
Are you ready to meet Him?
Jesus rose on the third day as He had told His disciples.
He also told them He will be back.
