William Tyndale, a scholar born in 1494 was burnt in 1536 at the stake because he was a translator of the Bible into English. His last words amidst the fire flames: " Lord, open the King of England's eyes!". His prayer was answered almost 80 years later when a new king took the throne, after Queen Elizabeth's death. The King James Bible took seven years to organize and much was based on William Tyndale's previous translation work. The same Bible was now both at home and in the church.
William Tyndale um erudito nascido em 1494 foi queimado em 1536 na fogueira por ter sido um dos tradutores da Bíblia. As suas últimas palavras entre as chamas da fogueira: " Deus, abre os olhos do Rei de Inglaterra". Cain and Abel: A GIFT TO GOD with different heart attitudes

Both knew that God is Creator and Giver of all good things.
But Cain offered something from the land, because he was supposed to bow before God, in reverence.
Abel came to God with his heart full of gratitude and offered the fattest parts of his flock.
One offered out of obligation; the other, Abel, out of genuine love.
God noticed that and was pleased with Abel. Noticing jealousy in Cain, God warned him:
SIN LIES AT YOUR DOOR ( of your mind and heart ). If you do not control it, it will control you.
God let Cain know that he had the possibility to choose to do the right thing and not the wrong one.
When murdering his brother Abel, Cain was exercising his free will, the wrong way.
There are CHOICES to make, we are to decide for the right one.

Propitiation versus Expiation - What do they mean?

Propitiation literally means to make favorable and specifically includes the idea of dealing with God’s wrath/grief against sinners. The word propitiation carries the basic idea of appeasement, or satisfaction, specifically towards God. Propitiation is a two-part act that involves appeasing the wrath of an offended person and being reconciled to that same person Expiation literally means to make pious and implies either the removal or cleansing of sin. The idea of propitiation includes that of expiation as its means; but the word "expiation" has no reference to quenching God’s righteous anger. The difference is that the object of expiation is sin, not God. One propitiates a person, and one expiates a problem. Christ's death was therefore both an expiation and a propitiation. By expiating (removing the problem of) sin God was made propitious (favorable) to us. Relevant passages: Luke 18:13 Romans 3:25 Hebrews 2:17 "...and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world." 1 John 2:2 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:10

PROPITIATION involves that GOD IS SATISFIED WITH US because our flaws were expiated/removed with the death of Christ, the flawless One.

The LAMB and the SACRIFICE in the Judeo Christian Culture

A sacrifice is something not so usual nowadays in this part of the world. We still talk about a father or a mother "making a sacrifice " for his/her son/daughter, referring to a decision that had a (high )cost but implied gain for the one the sacrifice was made for. The modern era, which frowns on sacrificing living things, goes back only about 2,000 years. But before that, practically everyone in every country was sacrificing something to the gods/deities. From an animal, to enemies, virgins or even children. In the Jewish culture no human sacrifice was allowed. In the last 2,000 years, we - in the Christian world anyway - only talk about how they used to do it. That is due to the fact that JESUS, GOD'S PERFECT LAMB and Humankind's representative, WAS SACRIFICED ONCE AND FOR ALL, FOR EVERYONE. So, no more blood sacrifices are needed to win God's Grace. The old patriarch Isaac was aware of God's intention to send ONE THAT TOOK THE PLACE OF EVERYONE. When he was asked by God to willingly sacrifice what he loved most in his life,which in Abraham's case was his son., he learnt on a personal basis what the Plan of God to reconcile men to Himself was about. When Abraham obediently put his son over the wood to be killed in the usual sacrificial way, he was timingly stopped to do so. An angel pointed out to a SUBSTITUTE LAMB ( a symbol of Jesus ) that was to be sacrificed instead of Abraham's boy: Isaac. From the first lamb sacrificed in Genesis to cover both Adam and Even's nudity after their fall from innocence and companionship of God, to the lamb that was provided to be offered in sacrifice instead of Isaac's son, to the flawless lambs in Egypt that were eaten by the families before they set out of Egypt and whose blood was applied on their doorposts to warn death to remain away from their firstborns, to the sacrifices offered by the priests for the sins of the people and their own sins,all point out to the Real Blameless Lamb from God to be sacrificed in favour of those that were under condemnation for sin. Several painters have presented these Lamb connected events in several ways and at several times of modern history. Here we will be showing some of them, starting with Abraham and Isaac.

The Parable of The Good Samaritan/A Parábola do Bom Samaritano - What is it about? É sobre o quê?

The Parable of the Good Samaritan is precipitated by and in answer to a question posed to Jesus by a lawyer,
"Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" (Luke 10:25).
In this case the lawyer would have been an expert in the Mosaic Law and not a court lawyer of today.
This question provided Jesus with an opportunity to define what His disciples' relationship should be to people in distress. Jesus focuses on relationships and what it means to be someone's neighbour.
The text says that the scribe (lawyer) had put the question to Jesus as a test. The scribe was making the assumption that man must do something to obtain eternal life. Jesus will answer the question using what is called the Socratic method; i.e. answering a question with a question, “He said to him, "What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?" (Luke 10:26). By referring to the Law, Jesus is directing the man to an authority they both would accept as truth, the Old Testament. The scribe answers Jesus’ question by quoting Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18.

In this Easter tree, the clouds with the Easter remembrance words are associated to wooden pegs to bring the cross into mind. The central motif is still the white lamb symbolizing the Lamb of God, that can be placed in a crown or not. Albrecht Dürer in his famous presentation of THE ADORATION OF THE LAMB IN HEAVEN places the Lamb (one of the symbols of Jesus) in a circle, sign of His perfection and of having no beginning and no end.

The Son of Man's Hours of Crisis

Entrying into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday
He was not in anticipation of being crowned:
The crying of the multitude " Hail Son of David"
would soon turn into "Crucify Him !"

Celebrating Passover with His Disciples
His Heart was moved, full of love for them all;
Sadness however filled His thoughts
"This is our Last Meal together here, with you",
He said
I must go away from you."
And added,
"I will be back to you however ..."

" Do this in remembrance of me.
This bread, that I break and share with you
represents my body, which will be broken for you;
this wine we drink a shade it is of my blood poured out for the forgiveness of sins;it ratifies a new agreement with men."
Among men it is common for the masters to be served.
But with me, your Lord and Master, I must serve you and so you have to do if you are with me."

" What you have to do, do it quickly",
Jesus told Judas as an aside.
And after that satan took possession of the heart and mind
of the so called disciple.

After the song, heading to the Gethsemane Garden,
He was struck with horrifying agony.

Three times he prayed earnestly in the Mount of Olives.
Overwhelmed with grief, He kept on fighting on His own,
blood and sweat coming down His face to the ground.
An angel from heaven came to strenghten Him in spirit.

To do the Will of the Father meant
excruciating suffering in His spirit,
pain in the soul, overcoming the desire of the weak flesh.

" Father, if it is POSSIBLE, pass this cup from me..."

Glorifying the Father meant betrayal,
Injustice, ungratefulness, loneliness, lowliness,
Insults, mistreatment, false witnesses, being called liar
For saying The Truth, nothing but The Truth":
" I AM THE SON OF GOD!"
But, worst of all,
The torment of SEPARATION from His beloved Father
Awaited Him..

Why?

He had to accept over Him the burden of all the sin in the world...
The Father would have to abandon Him,
horrified by the view of evil over THE ONLY ONE FROM HIM BEGOTTEN.

Was there ANY OTHER way out?
NO!

That was the REASON WHY He had become A MAN among men:
Emmanuel, God is WITH us.
It was NOT POSSIBLE for men
to GET RIGHT with God on any other terms!
That was THE hour.
The Father would ONLY accept an unblemished substitution victim.
There was NO ONE ELSE but Him, God among men.
That was the Hour to reverse the History of Mankind, of Earth.

" Your Will be done"

He willingly became
THE UNIQUE, PERFECT, SACRIFICIAL LAMB for all generations.

Jesus, the Lamb INSTEAD of us, of each one of us.

God's Love and Justice coming together:
The two sides of the same hand.

Before the Victory, a cup of sorrows.

The Cross for the Son of Man was a necessity,
Only the GodMan was able to recover men from the fall,
the Genesis destructive rebellion against the Creator
Had to be atoned for.
He instead of us all, on the trial cross of mankind.

"It is finished! Father, into your hands I commit my spirit"

The curtain of the Temple torn in two, from top to bottom.
Darkness around, the earth shook, the rocks split, tombs opened.

"Surely He was the Son of God!",
The centurion proclaimed.

What was Jesus' decision?
To go to hell
for me and you
to overcome death and evil in the body of a Man
His purpose?
Opening wide the Gates of Heaven...
for all men, for everybody.

Before the ascension into Heaven,
There was the descent into hell.

" Your Will be done "

The Father was glorified with His total obedience.
We ... that call Him Lord and God
Were set free from eternal bondage.
Rescued for eternity
to live with God and His Perfect Lamb for ever.

His Mission was accomplished.
